Mechanic Sr20 Soldering Wick with handle

The Mechanic SR20 is a series of desoldering wicks that comes in an anti-hot dispenser with a handle. The line includes various widths, with 1.0mm and 2.0mm being among the available options. 

Features and sizes

• Handle/Dispenser: The "handle" is actually an anti-scald plastic thumbwheel dispenser that lets you unspool and control the length of wick you need, while the built-in nozzle helps apply pressure and dissipate heat. This design makes the wick easier to use and helps prevent burns.

• Dimensions:

  • Width: The SR20 series offers multiple widths, with 1.0mm and 2.0mm as distinct size options.

  • Length: The total length of the wick for the SR20 line is typically 2 meters.

• Material and composition: The wick is made of finely braided copper wire that is treated with a low-residue, halogen-free flux. The flux helps to increase solder absorption and make the desoldering process more efficient. 

How to use

1. Prepare: Place the desoldering wick over the solder you wish to remove.

2. Heat: Place the tip of your hot soldering iron on top of the wick. The heat will transfer through the wick to the solder below.

3. Absorb: As the solder melts, the flux in the wick will draw the molten solder up into the copper braid.

4. Repeat: Once the solder has been absorbed, remove the iron and wick. Repeat the process if necessary until the joint is clean.

5. Trim: Cut off the used, solder-filled portion of the wick before the next use.
