Mechanic V7 freeze spray is
an aerosol circuit refrigerant used primarily for diagnosing faults in electronic components and circuit boards. It provides a rapid, targeted blast of cold gas that can instantly lower the temperature of a surface to approximately -60°C.
Key features
Rapid cooling: Instantly lowers the surface temperature of electronic components for testing and diagnostics.
Non-conductive: Safe to use on live circuits without causing a short circuit.
No residue: The spray evaporates quickly without leaving any residue that could interfere with electronics.
Environmentally friendly: Some versions are formulated without ozone-depleting CFCs and HCFCs.
Precise application: Comes with a gun-type nozzle and extended tube for accurate application on small components.
Common applications
Detecting thermal faults: When sprayed on a powered circuit board, the cold gas causes frost to form. A faulty, overheating component or solder joint will melt the frost faster than surrounding areas, revealing the location of the problem. This is especially useful for finding short circuits.
Testing components: It can be used to test thermally sensitive components like capacitors, integrated circuits, and semiconductors to see if their performance changes with temperature.
Component installation: The cold spray can shrink metal parts, making it easier to install them into tight-fitting areas, such as fitting a bearing into its seat.
Heat protection: It can act as a temporary heatsink, protecting heat-sensitive components from damage during soldering or desoldering.
Mechanical applications: The spray can be used for rapid cooling of machine parts and metal connections.
